The four legendary musicians embark on a musical journey based on one of the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective’s most successful concepts, the Jazz/Takes concert series residing at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. While the creative task of Jazz/Takes is complex, the concept is simple: Interpreting the canons of well-established genres of contemporary music - through the lens of jazz.
Experience the thrill of our 5th Jazz/Takes Series, starting with a tribute to the legendary Jimi Hendrix on August 30th. Led by the incomparable Mike Stern (SOLD OUT) and a virtuosic ensemble, delve into Hendrix's iconic melodies reimagined through jazz. First concert have already sold out but we’ve added a second show same day.
On September 20th, witness the convergence of genres with our Jazz/Take on Kurt Cobain & Nirvana, led by saxophone icon Bill Evans. Prepare for an evening of raw energy and melodic sophistication as jazz pushes boundaries.
On November 8th, Niels Lan Doky takes center stage for a solo piano concert, offering a unique blend of original compositions and improvisational 'Explorations.' This solo performance is a rare opportunity to witness the raw and unfiltered talent of one of jazz's luminaries.
Finally, join us on December 6th for a soul-stirring tribute to the incomparable Amy Winehouse, led by the dynamic Manu Katché on drums. It promises to be an unforgettable evening filled with passion, emotion, and unparalleled musicality.
On August 30th, 2024, the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective kicked off its latest Jazz/Takes Series at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. The concert, which reinterpreted the legendary music of Jimi Hendrix through the lens of jazz, featured the world-renowned guitarist Mike Stern and a stellar ensemble of international musicians.
The Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective is an association of prolific musicians from Europe, North America and South America, devoted to presenting unique and exclusive jazz performances of which cannot be heard anywhere else. The collective is led by pianist Niels Lan Doky, whom the international press has hailed as “the best pianist of his generation” and “one of the most important pianists that European jazz has given us in the last 45 years”.
Niels Lan Doky wanted a name that instead of referring to a location, like a jazz club, referred to an organisation of artists. So, inspired by artistic organizations such as The Royal Danish Ballet, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Cirque du Soleil, The Royal Shakespeare Company, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Niels founded the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective on September 12th, 2017 as an association of musicians. Inspired in part by the world of classical music, all of the NLD IJC’s programs reverse the jazz world’s traditional narrative which speaks about the artists first, before speaking about the music that they play. The NLD IJC speaks first and foremost about the music - and only secondarily about the artists who perform it. For all of their programs, they cast musicians in view of serving the music - not vice versa.
