A Sonic Tribute: Jazz/Takes on Jimi Hendrix at Louisiana Museum w/ Mike Stern

On August 30th, 2024, the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective kicked off its latest Jazz/Takes Series at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. The concert, which reinterpreted the legendary music of Jimi Hendrix through the lens of jazz, featured the world-renowned guitarist Mike Stern and a stellar ensemble of international musicians.

Mike Stern and the Ensemble

The stage was graced by the incredible Mike Stern, one of the most innovative jazz guitarists of our time. His blend of rock, blues, and jazz brought Hendrix’s timeless works to life with a fresh, transformative energy. Alongside Stern, his wife and accomplished guitarist Leni Stern added soulful depth to the performance.

François Moutin on double bass, and his brother, Louis Moutin, on drums, brought a vibrant rhythm section that grounded the performance. Special guest vocalist Nana Nørgaard lent her powerful voice, adding a rich, emotional layer to the reimagined Hendrix classics.

Reinterpreting Hendrix’s Legacy

The Jazz/Takes concert was an exceptional evening of sonic exploration.
