Hailed as “the best pianist of his generation” and “one of the most important European pianists of the last, now 50 years,” Danish born Sir Niels Lan Doky was knighted by HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark in 2010. He has graced the most prestigious stages globally, collaborating with the greatest jazz luminaries, and classical orchestras such as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Copenhagen Philharmonic. Now Niels Lan Doky takes the stage together with the iconic rhythm section of bassist Steve Rodby and drummer Paul Wertico, veterans of the most legendary edition of the Pat Metheny Group, multi-Grammy Award® winners and co-creators of some of the greatest masterpiece albums by the PMG ("Letter From Home", "Still Life (Talking)", "Imaginary Day", "We Live Here", "First Circle"...).
Sir Doky’s music has been acclaimed as “fresh and provocative” by the New York Times, his concerts as “blissful and unforgettable”, and himself as “a melodist, with a deep and enlightening touch" by Telerama, France. Known for his compelling improvisations and melodic-harmonic brilliance, Sir Doky stands as an exceptional pianist with a broad range, garnering awards across Europe, North America, and Asia for his outstanding recordings. With early American influences and omnipresent Scandinavian roots, a symbiosis of Nordic lyricism and romanticism with American strength and determination defines his musical identity. Having studied the entire history of jazz piano, Sir Doky also expertly incorporates elements from a wide spectrum of contemporary music genres, all while embracing classical music and the melodious traditions of Scandinavian folk. As the esteemed Bösendorfer Artist, Sir Doky’s unparalleled tapestries of notes transport the instrument’s unmatched beauty to concert stages worldwide, inviting audiences to experience the sparkling storytelling within his music. Despite its deep virtuosity and complexity, his music is simultaneously profoundly emotional and broadly appealing.
