AMANDA THOMSEN with VICTOR JONES, CALLE BRICKMAN & TOBIAS DALL
Presented by the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective

One of the greatest success stories from our years at The Standard Jazz Club in Havnegade was the emergence of the rare and incredibly talented young Danish vocalist Amanda Thomsen who debuted there in early 2014 at the age of only 16. She was headling there for 2 weeks performing 2 shows a night to an overwhelming audience response. One of Amanda's biggest idols and musical influences, the great American vocalist and songwriter Brian McKnight, even showed up on the last night to hear her and was taken taken by the magnitude of her talent, leading to a long-standing personal relationship that led to them doing co-billed concert during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2017, a concert that also included saxophone icon David Sanborn and other legendary musicians, such as drummer Dave Weckl and the Doky Brothers (pianist Niels Lan Doky and bassist Chris Minh Doky). Three years after her 2014 debut, and after having accumulated a track record of more than 200 shows, Amanda flew to Japan the morning after her high-school graduating in June 2017 to tour as a featured guest artist with the Niels Lan Doky Trio and alongside vocalist and music industry legend Debbie Sledge (of Sister Sledge and "We Are Family" fame). Since then Amanda has spent a lot of time in the USA, Los Angeles and New York, and since her pre-covid return to Denmark she has formed her on pop group called AYA MAI.

PROGRAM:
Tonight's concert will feature a selection of highlights from AMANDA THOMSEN's numerous concerts at The Standard Jazz Club during the mid-2010s. Her many loyal fans will surely remember signature songs of her's such as "A Song For You", "Just Hold Me", "Trust In Me", "My Love Is Your Love", "Love On Top", "Efter Festen", "Dance With My Father", a.o.

LINE-UP:
Tonight's trio accompanying features 3 of our top favorite musicians and regulars, including American drummer Victor Jones (renowned and revered for his work with Stan Getz, Michel Petrucciani and Chaka Khan among others), Swedish pianist Calle Brickman (recently featured on our album production with Alvin Queen "Night Train to Copenhagen" which has topped the radio charts in the US for many consecutive weeks this year) and Danish bassist Tobias Dall (regular member of Niels Lan Doky's trio and the NLD International Jazz Collective).

ABOUT JAZZ MASTERWORKS SERIES:

In 2014, Niels Lan Doky began using the term “Jazz Masterworks Series” to present live performances and modern re-interpretations of iconic albums that have defined the genre at the now defunct The Standard Jazz Club in Copenhagen. “Unlike Classical music, jazz is mostly improvised and as a result we don’t have written scores of masterworks that can be read and played by other artists. But I have concluded that album recordings are the jazz world's equivalent, hence the Jazz Masterworks Series concept was born.” Stellar casts of American, European and South American musicians from the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective meet up periodically to perform and re-interpret selected masterworks albums from Jazz’s iconic canon.

The Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective wishes to thank their sponsors:

  • Main sponsor: Augustinus Fonden.

  • Additional contributions: William Demant Fonden, Knud Højgaards Fond, Statens Kunstfond, and Gangstedfonden.
