Two shows nightly at 17:00 (5 PM) and 20:00 (8 PM).
ABOUT THE HERBIE HANCOCK "EMPYREAN ISLES" ALBUM:
"Empyrean Isles" is the fourth studio album by American jazz piano innovator Herbie Hancock, recorded at Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, on June 17, 1964 for Blue Note Records. It features Hancock with his Miles Davis bandmates at the time, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams, alongside trumpeter Freddie Hubbard. It is one of the most studied and analyzed piano albums by subsequent generations of jazz pianists and AllMusic reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine called it "a record that officially established Hancock as a major artist in his own right." The album also contains the first recorded version of one Hancock's most famous songs, "Cantaloupe Island", that he later recorded a jazz-funk fusion version of, as "Cantalope Island", on his 1976 album "Secrets". Also, in 1993, the British jazz rap group Us3 sampled "Cantaloupe Island" in their song "Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)" from their album Hand On the Torch, which generated a major international crossover hit.
ABOUT TONIGHT'S PERFORMERS:
Tonight's quartet comprises four of our top favorite musicians and regulars, first and foremost 7x Grammy award-winning jazz trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker who has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock for more than four decades. His performances have graced hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Parliament/Funkadelic to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, and Jaco Pastorius. American drummer Victor Jones is renowned and revered for his work with Stan Getz, Michel Petrucciani and Chaka Khan among others. Thomas Clausen is one Denmark's great piano masters. His credentials includes who's-who in jazz including, to name but a few, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Gary Burton and Roy Haynes. He is also on the album that Miles Davis came to Denmark to record in 1984 entitled "Aura" and which won a Grammy in the US. Completing the line-up is the incredible young Danish bassist Tobias Dall who has previously appeared with Randy Brecker at the now defunct The Standard Jazz Club, and who is also a regular member of Niels Lan Doky's trio and the NLD International Jazz Collective.

ABOUT JAZZ MASTERWORKS SERIES:
In 2014, Niels Lan Doky began using the term “Jazz Masterworks Series” to present live performances and modern re-interpretations of iconic albums that have defined the genre at the now defunct The Standard Jazz Club in Copenhagen. “Unlike Classical music, jazz is mostly improvised and as a result we don’t have written scores of masterworks that can be read and played by other artists. But I have concluded that album recordings are the jazz world's equivalent, hence the Jazz Masterworks Series concept was born.” Stellar casts of American, European and South American musicians from the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective meet up periodically to perform and re-interpret selected masterworks albums from Jazz’s iconic canon.
The Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective wishes to thank their sponsors:
