ABOUT:
It is with great excitement that the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective announces its Fall 2023 program at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
Join us also on the late great Jaco Pastorius' birthday December 1st, for a spectacular celebration co-led and headlined by his son Felix Pastorius, who has earned the distinction of a world-class musician and bass virtuoso in his own right, and master drummer Lenny White. Aside from being a part of of Chick Corea's groundbreaking group Return To Forever - just like Stanley Clarke - Lenny White is also the drummer on a majority of the genre-defining albums of the entire jazz/fusion movement, including not least Jaco Pastorius' acclaimed self-titled debut album from 1976 and the Miles Davis Bitches Brew album from 1970.
The rest of our Fall program is just as compelling and not to be missed:
The excitement doesn't stop there! Embark on a musical odyssey as we proudly present jazz/fusion bass legend Stanley Clarke and his remarkable band N•4EVER. After many years of absence, Stanley Clarke returns to Denmark, gracing the Louisiana stage on November 3rd. Stanley Clarke, a true icon in the jazz and fusion realm, has been shaping the music landscape for over five decades. As a bassist, composer, and visionary, his influence is almost immeasurable just like Jaco Pastorius. N•4EVER, carefully curated by Stanley Clarke, weaves together a tapestry of sonic landscapes. Don't miss this rare occasion to witness a fusion of legendary talent and groundbreaking innovation. Join us for an evening that will etch itself into your musical memory.
Furthermore, to start out this Fall season we proudly present our JAZZ/TAKE ON PRINCE on October 6th, featuring, among others, former Prince-drummer David "Fingers" Haynes and the breathtaking French bass virtuoso, François Moutin who will deliver instrumental jazz renditions of a selection of Prince's iconic songs, chosen by Mayte Garcia - who will also join us at Louisiana with an introductory speech to the concert. Ms. Garcia was formerly married to Prince and did five world tours as a member of his New Power Generation. Prince would have turned 65 this year which prompted the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective to initiate this jazz celebration of the iconic pop star and his timeless songs, many of which were written for or inspired by Ms. Garcia who worked with our musical director Niels Lan Doky on the preparation of this concert.
Jazz/Takes Series 2022 at Louisiana:

LOUISIANA MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
From the beginning, the founder, Knud W. Jensen, intended for the museum to be a home for modern Danish art. But after only a few years he changed course, and instead of being a predominantly Danish collection, Louisiana became an international museum with many internationally renowned works.
Louisiana’s close contact and collaboration with the international arts and cultural milieu has since been one of the museum’s greatest strengths. And also one of the main reasons that it has been possible for Louisiana to present an exhibition program that has resonated so strongly with the public over the years. Louisiana has thus achieved a standing as one of the world’s most respected exhibition venues, and in the future, it will be able to attract exhibitions and artists at a level that few other museums – either in Denmark or abroad – can match.
Knud W Jensen once said: “The more opportunities for experience that the program offers, the more Louisiana lives up to its idea – to be a ‘musical meeting place’ and a milieu that is engaged in contemporary life.”
