About:
It has been more than four years since Debbie Sledge has set foot in Denmark, and three years since Camille Sledge did. Their loyal fans here will surely remember numerous breathtaking and exhilarating nights at The Standard Jazz Club in Copenhagen during the years 2014-2016 and at The National Museum of Denmark in 2017 and 2018. But time flies so quickly. And then came the pandemic, which pushed any potential return even further into the future. But now, finally the moment has come for their long awaited return, this time together on the same show. Debbie and her daughter Camille have decided to take a night off during their European tour with Sister Sledge, to come to Helsingør for the opening night of SOUND DUES 2022 and perform a special tribute to Nat King Cole and his timeless songs, a legacy that also was carried on for many years by his now late daughter Natalie Cole.

The extraordinary American singer and music industry legend Debbie Sledge released  “We Are Family” in 1979 with her family-based group Sister Sledge. It remains one of the most popular and enduring songs of all time. She also collaborated with James Brown on the historic Rumble In The Jungle concert in Zaïre in 1974. A devoted jazz singer as well, she has performed at the Cotton Club in Harlem and elsewhere. During the years 2014-2018 she tooks audiences by storm when she teamed up with acclaimed jazz pianist Niels Lan Doky for performances in Copenhagen, London in Paris. Their compelling renditions of both soul and jazz classics and lesser known gems garnered standing ovations night after night, and yielded two live records, “Debbie Sledge - Live at The Standard” (vinyl LP release) and “Debbie Sledge Sings Nina Simone” (digital release) with music that to the utmost degree is vibrant, emotionally intense and intuitive. Joining Debbie for SOUND DUES 2022  is her daughter Camille, who is an equally phenomenal vocalist and also a part of the group Sister Sledge. Camille has also delivered many incredible performances in Denmark during the last decade. Highlights include her “Jazz/Take on 1970s Soul Royalty” show at Nørrebro Theater in 2019, “Camille Sledge sings Aretha Franklin” at the National Museum of Denmark in 2018 and “Soul Sessions” at The Standard Jazz Club in the mid-2010s.

Don’t miss this spectacular return engagement of Debbie and Camille Sledge,  taking place at one of the most iconic venues to be found anywhere, the UNESCO World Herítage Site, Kronborg Castle - in Helsingør, immortalized as Elsinore in William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, a town in the Capital Region of Denmark, statistically referenced as one of the happiest nations in the world.
