About:
American saxophonist Bill Evans comes full circle with this engagement to perform in the house where Stan Getz and his family used to live. On his 14th birthday in 1972, Bill’s parents took him to see his first big idol, Stan Getz, live in concert in Chicago. It was a life-changing event for Bill who also got to see, hear and even meet Stan personally, as well as Stan’s wife Monica, who was also there that night. Less than a decade later, Bill Evans had risen to international jazz stardom as a member of Miles Davis' celebrated comeback band of the early 1980s and he went on to become one of the most acclaimed saxophonists of the post-Getz generation. Joining Bill this time for his very special visit to Denmark is a unique and spectacular supergroup comprising some of the greatest musicians of all time: Bassist Darryl Jones has been with the Rolling Stones since 1993 but prior to that also toured and recorded extensively with Miles Davis and Sting among others. Drummer Manu Katché is revered for his work with Peter Gabriel, Joni Mitchell, Jan Garbarek and Jeff Beck and many others. Pianist Niels Lan Doky, was knighted by HM the Queen of Denmark and has collaborated with a who’s-who in jazz, from Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, David Sanborn, Jack DeJohnette, Gary Peacock to Toots Thielemans, John McLaughlin, Ray Brown, Al Jarreau and beyond. The group’s set list will include a mixture of new interpretations of Stan Getz repertoire as well as original compositions. Don't miss this ultra-rare opportunity to hear this dreamteam in the intimate setting of a very beautiful private house that used to be the home of Stan Getz and his family. The concerts will take place in the library of the house, where Stan used to hold all his rehearsals, with Jan Johansson and his other band members at the time. As depicted in the Stan Getz biography “A Life In Jazz” by Donald L. Maggin, the Getz family’s time in Elsinore was their happiest as a family. Stan and Monica Getz became known as the American jazz ambassadors in Denmark. American musicians who came through Copenhagen during their European tours would drive up for a visit to the Getz residence in Elsinore and have dinner and relax there before their concert. Monica Getz was known to be a great hostess and we are proud to have her as our guest of honor. We look forward to her sharing anecdotes from some of the many legendary moments that took place in this house as an introduction to our Stan Getz tribute concert here at their former residence.
