Albert “Tootie” Heath (drums)

About:
He was the drummer on John Coltrane’s debut album “Coltrane” in 1957 and has performed and recorded with the most important artists in jazz, from Miles Davis to Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson, Charles Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Horace Silver and beyond. The National Endowment for the Arts awarded Albert “Tootie” Heath a 2021 NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship - the highest honor in jazz from the US government. As one of the original artists who created and defined modern jazz, and who have been a part of its evolution for one the longest time, we are honored and excited to engage in an in-depth conversation with Tootie about the future scope of jazz.
