ABOUT:
It is with great excitement that the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective announces its Fall 2024 program at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

Join us on September 20 for a groundbreaking exploration of jazz and grunge with JAZZ/TAKE ON KURT COBAIN & NIRVANA, featuring the great Bill Evans on saxophones leading an incredible international band., with  Gary Husband on piano, Linley Marthe on electric bass, and Nicolas Viccaro on drums. Together, they will present a new angle on the raw energy of Nirvana's iconic works through the lens of jazz. This ensemble promises an evening of musical innovation, where the worlds of jazz and grunge converge in a harmonious fusion.

Saxophonist Bill Evans began his career at age 21 with Miles Davis, which helped launch more than three decades of musical exploration leading his own bands. To date, he has recorded 26 solo CDs. Currently, he is co-leading bands with multiple artists, including Robben Ford, Mike Stern, and Randy Brecker, and continues to tour extensively worldwide.

"Jazz/Take on Kurt Cobain & Nirvana" is just the tip of the iceberg of our Fall 2024 series. Join us on August 30th when we explore Jimi Hendrix through the lens of jazz with the great Mike Stern on guitar, and on December 6th when Amy Winehouse is interpreted by the great Manu Katché on drums and Felix Pastorius on bass among others. Furthermore, we present an exclusive experience on November 8th when Niels Lan Doky performs his first-ever solo piano concert in Denmark as part of his new concert series “The Radius Of Now,” that showcases his original compositions, as well as improvisational ‘Explorations’ - spontaneous, abstract-poetic creations that delve deep into the present moment, rendering each performance a singular and extraordinary experience that cannot be replicated.

Jazz/Takes Series 2022 at Louisiana:

  • Aug 30: Jazz/Take on Jimi Hendrix

  • Nov 8: Niels Lan Doky Solo

  • Dec 6: Jazz/Take on Amy Winehouse

LOUISIANA MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
From the beginning, the founder, Knud W. Jensen, intended for the museum to be a home for modern Danish art. But after only a few years he changed course, and instead of being a predominantly Danish collection, Louisiana became an international museum with many internationally renowned works.

Louisiana’s close contact and collaboration with the international arts and cultural milieu has since been one of the museum’s greatest strengths. And also one of the main reasons that it has been possible for Louisiana to present an exhibition program that has resonated so strongly with the public over the years. Louisiana has thus achieved a standing as one of the world’s most respected exhibition venues, and in the future, it will be able to attract exhibitions and artists at a level that few other museums – either in Denmark or abroad – can match.

Knud W Jensen once said: “The more opportunities for experience that the program offers, the more Louisiana lives up to its idea – to be a ‘musical meeting place’ and a milieu that is engaged in contemporary life.”
